Or rather, OL for me! :)

The One Laptop Per Child project is finally doing what everyone has been telling them they should do. They are doing a 1 for 2 sale. You buy two laptops, one goes to a kid in some other country, and the other one goes to you!!!

From "Laptopgiving.org" "Starting November 12, One Laptop Per Child will be offering a Give 1 Get 1 Program for a brief window of time in North America. For $399, you will be purchasing two XO laptops—one that will be sent to empower a child to learn in a developing nation, and one that will be sent to your child at home."

So i'm a child, right? :)

If you go to their main site you can look up stuff about both the computers and the project, including the hardware specs, which are pretty nice for a $200 laptop. I wouldn't want to depend on it as my main computer, but as a take it with me to do writing and check email and browse the web type of computer it looks pretty awesome :)

I'm not sure what to think about the color scheme. I wonder how hard it would be to paint it black? On the other hand if it looks like a preschooler's toy it may make it less likely to be a target for thieves :)

So cool
If I had $400 to spare, I'd totally get one. I could deal with the obnoxious color scheme because it's a good sturdy machine and would be good for traveling. I had to borrow a cup o'internet from Merchimerch at the last conference because my kick-ass iMac is not so much with the portable.

What a perfect kitchen laptop! I've been thinking that it would be nice to have a computer in the kitchen for looking up recipes, nutrition, whatever. Something like that would need to deal fairly well with spills, and this fits the bill :-)
