Conferences are tiring and stressful. I don't really have anything to complain about compared to the people who actually have presentations to do, but i feel guilty about not knowing anything useful to present. So i decided to skip the last day of the second conference and try to get some useful stuff done at work.

I managed to move one half-carload of boxes to the new apartment over the weekend but otherwise have been too busy and tired to do anything else. Next week is going to be _lots_ of fun =P

I've also determined that i've gotten totally out of shape again. I noticed that one pair of pants was starting to get tight again, which caused me to check the scale and find that i'm back at 190 :( And i've also discovered that it now takes me 15-20 minutes to walk 0.8 miles which is way too slow, even if it did involve trying to get to the opposite corner of an intersection. Once everything is settled down again in about a month i need to start making time to go rollerblading again or something like that. Although if i just make sure to walk whenever going over to the other apartment complex or the nearby restaurants that may help too.

Ooo! I didn't know you rollerbladed? I would go rollerblading. Though, it always seems that social rollerblading involves breakfast some place tasty and fattening...I'm not sure I could resist The Pancake House in Redondo.

I do when i've got a working set of blades. I've got a new pair i just got for wumpskate, but i'm not sure i want to use them around the Redondo area given the hilliness and the lack of brakes. I'm going to try and see if i can find a way to fix the straps on the older ones so i can reattach the brake and use them for more day-to-day skating.

I'm not an avid roller blader, but perhaps the wumpskate blades should be used only for wumpskate? I assume that if you roller blade outside, especially along the beach, that the blades and the ball bearings will get a lot of sand and crud trapped in them whereas from what I understand, wumpskate is on relatively smooth concrete flooring so there won't be much dirt to muck up the blades much.

Is it the people, or just the LAX traffic? I've generally found that if one doesn't want to try to mingle with conference folks one can just sit in on courses and learn interesting things about random products (perhaps even enough to get started on presentation material for the next conference) and still feel productive.

The traffic is trickier, alas. Guess you could rollerblade home... :)

That's tiring and stressful? For the tiring a large part of it is the getting up in time to leave the apartment around 7 and then not getting back till 10 or 11 or midnight if we do dinner and/or hanging out afterwards.

For the stress it's partly the being out of place socially. I don't really like trying to issolate myself the entire time, especially since we're supposed to be there to mix with the users/VARs. So i end up wandering around alternating between thinking i should try to talk to people but not knowing how to start a conversation, and being afraid that if i do start talking to people i either won't know what to say or will get asked lots of questions that i don't know the answer to.

And like i said, it's kind of sad and stressful that i don't know enough about anything interesting enough to give a presentation on.
