Have i ever mentioned before that James Alan Gardner's "Vigilant" is incredibly good? All the books in his "League of Peoples" series are incredibly funny, at least if you like dark humor. They also usually have some interesting armchair psychology/philosophy, and a couple of them have poly or LGBT-friendly themes. Not to mention of course that it's very good science fiction, despite (or perhaps because of) never taking itself too seriously or getting into the nitty-gritty technical details.

Unfortunately (or not) now i seem to have started rereading all his other books as well. Luckily (or not) there are only seven in the series so far and they're all pretty quick reads, like finish in about two days without trying too hard quick, even while working.
