I took a shower, i shampooed and conditioned my hair, i soaped down every square inch of skin, so why do i still smell vaguely of smoke? =P

Um... Are you wearing anything you wore yesterday (like your shoes)? I would assume you'd have thought of that, but I figured it was worthwhile mentioning.

I wore my birks between the apartment and the car, but that was after making the post.

I know why I'd smell of smoke after a shower. That's because my bathroom window faces out onto somebody's back door. There's this little jar of cigarettes that the guy keeps on his doorstep. I keep the bathroom window open so that the steam has someplace to go after I shower.

But I'm sure that's not your reason why.

My back of the envelope scribbles say that a typical person has roughly a square meter of surface area on the strands of their hair. That's a lot of surface area for a smell to adsorb onto...

..and if "average" was anything like yourself, then I probably have at least five square meters...

I think my assumptions were...
hair diameter = .00006 meters (17 per millimeter)
hair length = .1 meters (4 inches)
number of hairs on head = 100,000
pi = 3 :)

Hmmm, my hair is definitely longer than that. *pulls a hair out* Hmmmm, at least twice as long as that. Hmmm, it seems to be about as long as the width of my monitor. The hardware profile doesn't say what it's size is, but it _does_ say that it's a Dell E7771p, and the specifications section of the documentation on the Dell site says those are "11.810.02 inches" across. So about three square meters of surface area, although probably somewhat less than that given that i have finer than average hair, unless people with finer hair have more of them.

I'm going to guess given your use of the word "typical" that coraa and i both have significantly more than a square meter :) Although my hair is rather fine unfortunately, so i don't know what that does to the equation.
