I need to keep in mind that Del Taco is trying to single handedly reverse the downsizing of fast food serving sizes in America. What they now call a medium is what and other fast food restaurant would call large, and their large is humongous.

And have i exulted yet about my new commute? 15 miles along a single freeway with both starting and ending points within a half block of the ramp. Not only that but going to work at least seems to be against the general traffic flow, and it's taken me about 20 minutes to get to work the last two days. Had my alarm set this morning for 6 and i was at work at 8, even with the stop at del taco to get breakfast thrown in :)

The only (incredibly minor) problem is that the commute is so short that when i get to work my hair is still damp =P

That seems surprising about Del Taco; what I remember of them mostly involves buying cheap, teeny-tiny tacos. And quesadillas which also weren't that big. Weird.

And, congrats on your awesome new commute. It now sounds as short as mine, and even simpler. (I've done mine in well under 15 minutes, but that's only with no traffic, hitting a dozen lights right, and going perhaps inadvisable amounts over the speed limit. 20-some minutes is more normal.)

Well yeah, all the normal food is pretty much the same as always, it's only the french fries and drinks that this applies to.

What downsizing?

Not downsizing the portions or anything, downsizing the names. Making new smaller sizes which will be the new small so they can move all the names down a rank. You pay the same for a "large" drinks say (or possibly a little less, but still more than for the old medium size) and they give you what used to be a medium cup.

It's more evident with movie theatres, but fast food places have been doing it too.

I haven't noticed that, but I haven't been eating fast food recently.

Maybe they're only correcting what has become egregiously over-portioned in the last few years. I mean, as Morgan Spurlock pointed out in Supersize Me, drinks and fries that are now called "small" and come with a happy meal used to be the regular size. What is now a medium used to be a large.
