(no subject)

I know this is a bit of a chicken and egg problem, but could people please stop making mp4 movies until there's a decent way to _play_ the damn things??!?

Winamp claims to support mp4, but actually it only supports the audio part of the codec, so if i try to open an mp4 movie i'll get the sound but no video. Mp4 is supposed to be based off of a QuickTime format, but when i try to load mp4s in QuickTime 7 it starts playing them but with very stuttery video and sometimes locks up completely after about 15 or 30 seconds. I tried upgrading from 7.2 to 7.4 but it didn't make any difference. There's something called "DirectShow" from Microsoft that's supposed to handle it, but i can't figure out where i'm supposed to download it from, unless i want to get the entire SDK from msdn =P AMV.org recommends using 3ivx, but www.3ivx.com isn't loading for me at the moment.
