I was at a gas station friday afternoon right after work, and the pay station near my car was out of receipt paper or something and told me to use the other one. There was a car with a giant trailer hitched to the back in one of the lanes next to me. I walked all the way around it to get to the other pay station, but on the way back i thought "i could just hop over the hitch between the car and the trailer." I even had a vague thought about how maybe i shouldn't, because i'd probably whack myself on something, but i did it anyways. And in the process of hopping over i slammed my right knee into... actually i'm not sure. Presumably the tie or something else sticking up. I was in such pain that i didn't think to turn around and look, i just hobbled back to my car. There was a black streak or two on my jeans, but it didn't _look_ too bad, although it really hurt. I sat in my car for a couple minutes until the pain subsided somewhat before driving home.
It didn't seem _too_ bad while i was driving, but when i got home and started getting out of the car i definitely had difficulty and pain while bending and unbending it. I was going to just suffer through, but when avalyn asked why i was limping and i explained she made me take off my pants and put an icepack on it. In the process of which we discovered that even though the jeans looked fine on the outside, i actually had a bloody scrape on the knee.
I laid down on the couch and elevated my leg and put an icepack on my knee, and it definitely felt better that way. However we had plans to go over to go do dinner and a movie with some friends at their place, so after about 30 minutes we had to leave for that.
I discovered that my knee was generally fine as long as i left it at whatever angle it happened to be in, it was only adjusting it that really hurt. So i spent the next couple hours trying to bend/unbend my knee as little as possible. Which made driving interesting :)
I slept on the couch that night, since it seemed easier to prop up and ice my knee that way. And Avalyn kindly kept me company by sleeping on the other couch :)
Saturday morning Avalyn's sister brought over a compression bandage and a knee wrap thing that you could put an icepack in, and i used those for the rest of the weekend.
By monday it was still kind of sore, but i felt okay going to work without the icepack and bandage. This week it's mostly fine, though i'm still getting the occasional ache or twinge.
So the number of times i have seriously injured my knees:
Left knee: 0
Right knee: 2-3
I hope they manage to perfect knee repair/replacement operations in the next couple decades, because otherwise i suspect i'm going to end up rather lop-sided =P
