Friday Fun Stuff

Yeah, i've been falling down on this a bit.

This week's Friday Fun Stuff is brought to you by the letter "synchronicity" and the number "i only have a single source this time."

Sometime in the last week i discovered CGPGrey's video feed on YouTube because someone posted a link to The Difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England Explained which i found both to be informative and very amusing. SO of course i started looking at the rest of his videos

So i watched the "Death to Pennies" video and then the follow-up "Canada Gets Rid of the Penny (Huzzah!)", with a side trip to a slightly older linked video of an amusing rant about the same subject "I HATE PENNIES!!!! (Also Nickels.)"

And then less than 48 hours later saw the "first" "mainstream" news report about Canada getting rid of the penny. "Mainstream", because i'm not sure if Slashdot really counts, and "first", because this this change was announced at least nine months ago, so i'm sure other sources have reported on it and i just didn't see it. From what i understand the actual minting of pennies stopped awhile ago, but the official "we're going to stop giving them out as change" is set to happen next month, so it's getting a bit more coverage now.

So that topic and those videos were stuck in my mind when it came time to try and think up something to post :)

Some other videos from the same guy that i liked:

"Copyright: Forever Less One Day"

"The Problems with First Past the Post Voting Explained"

"Coffee: The Greatest Addiction Ever"

"5 Historical Misconceptions Rundown"

"10 Misconceptions Rundown"

"Holland vs the Netherlands"

"A Brief History of Santa"

And of course if you follow the links from those or go to the full index there are a lot more.
