More games from Amazon
Amazon is having another video game deals day, cause there's nothing like going head to head with one of the most anticipated game releases of the year! :) Although apparently some people aren't too happy with the way the ARG went down. What time today was Portal 2 supposed to come out originally? I can't tell if they actually succeeded in getting it out just a few hours early or if the entire attempt was a total failure. You gotta admire Valve's marketing department though. They convinced a bunch of gamers to give them money for extra games in an attempt to let them... give them money for a different game a few days or hours early. (Or in a lot of cases start playing a game for which they've long since handed the money over.)

So anyways, back to the actual topic, the Amazon sale.

Deal of the day: Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty for $40.

Lightning deals:

6:00-8:00 - World of Warcraft Battle Chest for $18
8:00-10:00 - "Don't forget treats for your Mabari War Hound." (Dragon Age 2?)
10:00-Noon - "Pick up this Sony PS3 exclusive collectors edition." (Not very specific, are there any new collectors editions that have come out recently?)
Noon-2:00 - "Hey man, nice Skillshot" (Bulletstorm?)
2:00-4:00 - "After thirteen days of fates intertwined, the battle begins." (FF13?)
4:00-6:00 - "Embark on epic quests and build your Kingdom." (Possibly The Sims Medieval?)
6:00-8:00 - "Unravel the mystery surrounding the origin of the KINGDOM HEARTS" (Birth by Sleep?)
8:00-10:00 - "Get ready to take to the field." (I'm guessing some baseball or other sports game?)

That seems to be a pretty strong lineup, i guess Amazon is going all out.

I thought the Portal 2 thing was clever. I like that they used the imminent release of a widely anticipated game (usually something that's bad for indies) to get people to play indie games most people had never heard of. I bought and played a few. I enjoyed some, most were 'meh'. All in all, I enjoyed it and will get to play Portal 2 this weekend. In the meantime, I'll keep feeding my Sims Medieval addiction :)

I should really get around to playing Portal 1, since they were not only nice enough to finally port it to Mac, but also give it to me for free. I just don't find time for much non-console gaming.

I thought the launch ARG was cute, but yeah, at this point in life I have pretty much zero of the "OMG must play new game ASAP!!!1!" drive, so the launch timing of things really doesn't affect me in the slightest. I'm lucky if I get around to things within a month, sometimes even after I've *bought* them.

That's part of why it's such a brilliant campaign. Except for an apparently small minority everyone seems to be just fine with getting extra stuff sold to them in this case :)

Have fun stormin' the castle!

(I have very mixed feelings about 13, but at sale price you'll probably be getting your money's worth in The Pretty regardless.)

Yeah, I usually grab up the FFs right away, but I'm in grad school and haven't played a number of 'new' (i.e., purchased new quite some time ago) games due to not having the time.

I loved 12, and I was sad they abandoned that control system.

Yeah, I pretty much buy them all right away because I'm a Square whore. Even a mediocre FF is better than a lot of things, for me. I don't regret buying XIII*, but it's not one of my favorites. XII is, though, right up there with VI.

*And I'll probably buy XIII-2 (which was announced, yes), because I'm a sucker.
