Damn it!
The original plan was that i would take a nap on sunday to catch up on sleep, then go to Wumpskate monday night, then soak up a fairly large amount of sleep dep so i could get up earlyish on tuesday, head home from work at a reasonable time, and pick up FF13 at whatever store isn't being brain dead about ordering sufficient quantities.

Then i found out that some stores are going to be doing midnight releases for FF13 monday night! =P

Wumpskate only happens once a month. Wumpskate runs from 9 pm to 1 am. It's conceivable that i could show up promptly at 9 and leave in time to make it to a local store by midnight. However isn't half the fun of a midnight release supposed to be hanging out with the people who are just as geeky as you while waiting in line? Of course i kinda suck at socialization, so it's entirely possible that i'd just stand in line playing DS or whatever and not actually talk to anyone at all. Even so it's an experience that i'd only have the chance for every four or five years (judging by the releases for FF10 and FF12.)

There's clearly no way i could do the midnight release and _then_ go to Wumpskate.

Clearly this calls for a (second) friday fun poll.

Also, before i get into the poll, there's an article claiming that Squenix screwed up the XBox port of PS3. Although i think "screwed up" is probably a relative term. I couldn't tell a lot of difference between the comparison screenshots. However i have to admit that i was looking at them on my Nexus One, which may have a great screen but it's still pretty tiny. And also because i was reading the article on my cellphone there was no way to view the FMV clips which they say show some pretty serious problems in the 360 version.

Poll: (Of course you should feel free to only fill out one half of the questions if you don't have an opinion on the other half.)

Poll #1534307 What should i do?

Wumpskate or FF13 Midnight Release?

Wumpskate! It only happens once a month, and it's not like you'd talk to anyone at the midnight release anyways!
1(16.7%)
FF13 Midnight Release! A real Final Fantasy only gets released every four or five years!
1(16.7%)
Wumpskate and then the Release! Since you probably wouldn't talk to anyone in line anyways...
3(50.0%)
Neither! I hate you and don't think you should have any fun!

Which nights should i stay up late playing it once i've got it?

Go to the Midnight Release and stay up really late monday night!

I know a couple of those don't really fit (FF Adventure, FF Legends, and KH 358/2 has no FF characters except Moogles) and i'm sure that despite the massive list it's possible i missed a couple. Feel free to complain about that in the comments ;)

Edit: Also note, this means played, not necessarily completed. I'll leave it up to you to decide how much is necessary to qualify. If you're the kind of person who tends to watch other people play games rather than playing them yourself you can count that i guess. Personally i don't think just watching Let's Play videos ought to count, but you can disagree i suppose :)

I full LP'd 3, Adventure, Legend. Does that count? (oh, no ;-P ).

You should stay up Tuesday since that's when my copy arrives from Amazon. ;->

For the first time in a long time, my list of how many have I completed (personally) is actually almost the same as played. You'd have to remove 2, 5, 4AY, 10-2 and 11 from that, but that's not nearly as big a list as it would have been about 3 years ago. Oh, and anything tactics related, I suppose.

I just feel the need to point out how much FF7:DoC sucks and how awesome FF7:CC is. Even if it is glorified fanfic from a writer who DOES stick themselves in as a mary sue with a giant thing for the main char and yet does not actually make the main char fall for them ;->

... I apparently only have one video game-related icon, so I guess I'll use that.

Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core are both like fanfic. The difference is that Crisis Core is an example of 'fanfic as written by a reasonably good writer with a reasonably good grasp of the characters and some interesting idea, and 'Dirge of Cerberus' is 'crack fanfic as written by a really bad writer with some seriously screwball ideas.'

Well, there's a crap-ton of Chocobo-themed games that are probably closer to being "an FF game" than, say, 358/2. Then there's FF7 Before Crisis, which requires access to a JP cell phone or something. Also FFCC:Ring of Fates. I dunno if Four Warriors of Light would count, or if it'll ever be translated.

Then there's FFvs13, for those with *serious* inside connections. ;)

Damn it! I actually thought about Chocobo Racing and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon while making up the list! I still have the wiki page open for it! Yet, somehow it got lost twixt wiki page and poll =P
Laura Parkinson: Sephirothstormfeather on March 5th, 2010 08:48 pm (UTC)
I played Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon! (Well, 2, I think it was that got imported over here, could be wrong though.) I also played...um.. the one DS game that revolved around Chocobo and a storybook, that I forget what it was called (didn't finish though :p )

And don't forget that Tactics was also remade...

And if you're going to really stretch, you could maybe include Vagrant Story, since I think that's also supposed to be in Ivalice, now? I could be wrong, though. And it's not connected to Final Fantasy in any other way that I know of. (Although it does have a Sidney, which is close to Cid...)

Anyhow, yeah, didn't complete all those on the list, and I think I've played parts of others maybe but am forgetting which. Like 3, which I just remembered I played part of th remake. And I need to get around to playing the DS version of 4, which I actually have but haven't gotten to playing yet... XD

Yeah, there's an over-arching Ivalice timeline that includes at least FFXII, Vagrant Story, FFTactics, and Revenant Wings (though you might consider the last one apocryphal if you want to stick to stuff directed by Matsuno). The Tactics Advance games I think are in alternate-Ivalice(s).
Laura Parkinson: fantasystormfeather on March 5th, 2010 09:24 pm (UTC)
Ah good, I wasn't hallucinating it then.

Also... icon love!
Kirin: Gankutsuou-SDcountkirinn on March 5th, 2010 09:52 pm (UTC)
It's a nice multi-purpose icon encompassing both "flirty" and "FFXII is totally awesome". ;)

'Screwed up' seems to be overstating the port differences. Um, yeah, the graphics aren't as good... well... supposedly, I'll take your word for it. Maybe by monitor isn't HD enough to tell ;->

The PS3 was always the 'primary' system. Would people rather rant and rave that there are some graphical differences or rant and rave that there's no port whatsoever. I dunno, seems like missing the point to me. I think http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9022412 put it better, but then, I suppose I would.

Conclusion: If you have the choice, get PS3. Since that's what half the people I know (or more) with PS3's got them for anyway ;-> If you don't have a choice, get the one that matches your system. There, no crisis. ;->

...for values of 'played' that include 'watched Pav play and made suggestions.' ;)

(I didn't count X-2 or After Years, since we really only just started.)
DonAithnendonaithnen on March 6th, 2010 01:15 am (UTC)
I would totally count X-2 and After Years if i was you! :)

The older I get and the more I read, the more I realize just how important sleep really is.

I just read some fascinating stuff in the book Nurture Shock this evening about how childhood obesity is more correlated with too little sleep than it is with more TV watching. TV and obesity intuitively seem to have such a direct cause-and-effect relationship that no one actually studied the issue. Until recently. When they run the numbers, staying up late is the problem, not sitting still.

I know for me it has made a huge difference lately.
