Wow
I'm watching Pirates of the Caribbean: World's End in the background while doing other stuff. Perhaps that wasn't such a good idea given that i've never seen it before. Some stuff makes sense given who ended up with the heart at the end of the second movie, but some stuff it seems like they just made up at the top of their head. (Were the pirate lords and the pieces of eight _ever_ mentioned in any of the other movies? And what's up with the song thing?)

It definitely doesn't help that every time i look up it seems like someone has changed sides or something :)

Regrettably, it doesn't make all that much more sense if you watch carefully.

The urge to collect sequel profits apparently beat any impulse to figure out why the first movie was worth watching.

Supposedly they're going to have a real story for the fourth one, "liberated" from one of Tim Powers' books.

I disagree with that. It has a lot going on, and a lot of people doing their own thing and not telling anyone else what they're doing (which was Jack's strategy in the first one, and apparently everyone else has taken it up), but it does make sense.

Yeah, basically what you have there is a few fun set-pieces strung together by a bunch of complete nonsense. Movies in that vein can be fun if you know what you're in for, but trying to piece together the plot is a fool's errand.

I do kind of appreciate how much it was willing to flirt with straight-up art-house surrealism in the actual world's end sequence, though.

Yeah, the World's End part was pretty cool. It was actually kind of reminding me of Time Bandits.

There was definitely lots of actiony bits in the movie, but was there anything like the katamari ball or the waterwheel from Dead Man's Chest? If there was i must have missed it.
