Dude! My camera _does_ have a built in microphone!!! I should post the movies i took of the Pirate Party at DragonCon! :)

Anyone know of a good free program for converting AVI files to something a little more compact? The clips i've got are about 30 megs for around a minute each. The videos are kind of grainy since the light level was kind of low, so i'm not sure if that means i shouldn't compress it much more or it will get a lot worse, or if that means i've got some leeway before additional artifacts start showing up.

I'd probably use ffmpeg, or maybe mencoder (part of the mplayer suite). I'm using Debian Linux and those are available pre-packaged. I say 'probably' because I haven't actually done it.
