Okay, clearly Creative has outsourced their technical support:

--------------------------------------------
Thank you for writing in to Creative Technical Support Services, we appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

From the description you had provided, I understand that you are inquiring the capabilities of your ZEN Vision:M regarding automatically bookmarking on a certain mp3 player just like the capability of iPod player which the called as PCST frame.

In this regards, I regret to inform you that this setup want is not applicable or beyond the capability of ZEN player like your ZEN Vision:M. You can only put bookmarks on the audible files and it is necessary to interfere by the user to make this feature works.

I would like to seek for your kind understanding and apologized for any inconvenience caused, any hassle caused is regretted.

By the way, you?ve made a great selection in the [Player]. I?m sure you?ll want to get the most out of your investment and to do so may I suggest some screen protectors to protector the LCD screen. They will help prolong the life of your LCD screen and keep it safe from scratches. Here is the link to our web page where you can find the screen protectors: www.creative.com/shop

If you have any additional questions, comments or concerns please include them in your response and I will do my best to address them.
Thank you.

Best Regards,

Rafael

So despite having figure out two different and not entirely effcient ways to add a PCST frame (re-exporting via Audacity and changing the header with a Hex editor) it seems that i won't be able to get normal mp3s to play properly on the Zen Vision =P Although it's hard to tell how much of the confusion in the response is due to them not speaking english well and how much is them not understanding what i'm asking about. And i've had cases very recently (Sprint) where the technical support person was much more coherent but also just plain wrong.

Er... what are you trying to do? I'm having some issues understanding the tech support response - can't imagine why...

I was trying to find out if the Creative Zen is capable of making use of the "PCST" tag that iPods use to make mp3s as "bookmarkable," or has any similar tags of its own. "Bookmarkable" meaning that the place where you stop playing the file will be automatically saved in a permanent fashion. Since the Zen has manual bookmarks that can be set and supports Audible files which have their own "bookmarkable" feature implemented i was hoping there was some way to get it applied to normal mp3s as well.

Here's one of the pages discussing the feature as it applies to iPods: http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-109269.html
