The Free Republic of The Antarctic
Woot! I emailed the NationStates people and they resurrected my country! :) Of course in the intervening... 1091 days i've fallen rather far behind. Kirinn's country is still active and up to a population 9.346 billion, but at least i'm not starting over from the beginning again :)

So here's my nation:

The Free Republic of The Antarctic
"The Land of the Future"

UN Category: Left-Leaning College State
Civil Rights: World Benchmark
Economy: Frightening
Political Freedoms: Good
Location: Lazarus

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Free Republic of The Antarctic is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 3.173 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Education, although Social Welfare and Commerce are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 78%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing industry.

Citizens are expected to be proficient in at least five languages, citizens can be frequently spotted going about their business stark naked, the study of medicine is popular throughout The Antarctic, and all recreational drugs are legal. Crime is totally unknown. The Antarctic's national animal is the penguin, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.

I clearly know next to nothing about the game (I remember taking note of the basics when someone blogged about it a while back). How much of a summary like what Geoff posted is generated by the game and how much is user provided? In what sense exactly is a population of three billion "falling behind"? In what sense is a 78% income tax reasonable? And is there anywhere that a total non-participant can go to peek at what his friends are up to?

You pick the name, currency and national animal. Everything else is automatically generated based on the choices you pick in response to various issues. My three billion is falling behind because kirinn is up to 9 billion, and when i was still active i believe we were fairly evenly matched. It's odd though, cause i thought i was _maybe_ at 1 billion when it got deleted, but perhaps i'm confused. I'm not sure the 78% income tax rate is reasonable, but that's just where it ended up based on the issues :)

When last i was playing i'd pretty much reached a point i liked and was trying to mostly stay neutral on issues with perhaps a little reinforcement of the good traits.

Here's my nation, and Kirinn's nation

So let's band together and take over! ...

Eurovision, at least.

My country was similar when I played years ago. Crippling taxes, enormous social freedom. Socialism-topia!
