Web Activism or Web Vandalism or just Web Wasting Your Time?
Got this from clary:

-----
"Follow the link below to take action on this important issue. Go to http://www.afa.net/petitions/businesses/businesses.asp

"Here's another chance to tip the scales of this VERY HOMOPHOBIC group's own survey. The AFA (American Family Association) is expecting an overwhelming majority of respondents to say that they would be 'less likely' to do business with a company if they knew it supported the "homosexual agenda" - whatever that is. So far, they are getting the results they seek. Of course, they are only sending it where they will get the expected results.

"Let's change the outcome by completing the one-question survey and sending it to everyone we know who is tired of this archaic and hateful way of thinking.

"Through various organizations in my school, this particular issue was brought to my attention, and I realized that getting this out onto the internet where everyone can see it should help balance everything out. I don't know tons of people, but I've got friends, who have friends, who have friends. Please pass this along and vote, so that all opinions are represented, not just the ones that the AFA want to see."

Well i've done my part, the score is now:

If a corporation supports the homosexual agenda, you would:
Be more likely to do business with that company. 6,238
Be less likely to do business with that company. 188,722
It would not affect my buying decision. 3,946

It'll take quite a lot of forwarding before we catch up with that =/

(And i'm sure everyone i know is web-savy enough to figure it out without saying, but if you actually put real info in the form at least make sure to use an email address that's already made its way onto the spammers' lists. There's no privacy policy and i for one don't trust the AFA worth a damn.)

Either the stats aren't real-time or something fishy's going on, as I saw the exact same totals after voting.

Not that it really matters; I'd postulate that this is a bit of a futile endeavor, as if the "wrong" answer wins I'll bet dollars to doughnuts they'll just claim that the poll was "hacked" anyway.

I'd postulate that it's a futile endeavor, but for a different reason. Even if it isn't rigged, it's a non-scientific poll with a self-selecting population. What could they possibly use this data for where it would matter?

i saw those same totals too...
hmm, i wondered if it might be rigged...sticking my vote into
the middle choice...

i'm still pondering just what the homosexual "agenda" is...lol

It fails for me, so I suspect that link was forwarded around pretty quickly.
