The people who make Hummers have come out with one of the most stupid and offensive commercials i've seen in a long time, and iyindo's done a much better commentary about it than i could.

That does remind me though, i've recently discovered that i don't mind at all if someone says that i'm not aggressive enough, not assertive enough, or not masculine enough. However if they tell me, or anyone else for that matter, that i/they "need to grow a pair of balls," i will get seriously pissed at them. Even the claim that i'm not assertive enough for a guy is somehow far less infuriating then the blatant implication that assertiveness is somehow intrinsically linked to the male anatomy and becoming more assertive is synonymous with becoming "more" male, or at least having more of the bits that identify one as a male.

Naturally, the feminist blogosphere has already got this one covered.

Yeah, I wanted to puke when I saw that one.

All I can hope is that it totally backfires on them. I mean, it can't possibly have any creedence with the vegetarian set, and I have to wonder how the ribs-and-beer set feel about ads that imply that their manhood wasn't good enough without the Hummer.

Yeah, clearly the Hummer and like cars were already aimed at people who feel inadequate, but i'm not sure those people will really appreciate being _told_ that.

Well, that commericial is OBVIOUSLY marketed toward those Conservative, "manly" men who helped Bush get into office. Yeah RIGHT the guy buying tofu would be giving him look of envy. He'd be much more likely to give the guy a look of disgust. Although if one pointed that out to the creators of the commericial, they'd probably say the guy was being forced to buy tofu because his wife was making him, which would make the guy look like a wimp, and seriously piss off any females. But obviously the market for Hummers isn't females at all, as they have no need to "restore their manhood."

AAAANYway, I'd take your kind of man over their kind of man any day. ;p

yayayayayay! Thank you :)

Strangely enough though, as i mentioned in response to iyindo's post, there's actually an alternate version of the ad targeted at females.

But having four would be totally awesome!
Squidceph on July 17th, 2006 07:08 pm (UTC)
Wouldn't that make it hard to walk?
DonAithnendonaithnen on July 17th, 2006 07:40 pm (UTC)
...uh, it would? What would you do with four though?

I'm too lazy to find the exact link, but ozarque also discussed that ad.

Oops. I mean the female version. but the male version was mentioned briefly in comments. They're both icky.
