Breaking Even  
Holy crap, the NIF has managed to create a fusion reaction that "breaks even"!

It should be noted that in this case they mean "more energy came out of the reaction than was absorbed by the fuel". Because of various inefficiencies they're nowhere near "ignition", where they can actually get enough energy out, convert it to electricity, and use that to power the reaction. But it's still an awesome step in the right direction!

Of course i'm still holding out hope that one of the smaller and more ambitious projects, such as the Polywell reactor, will make some kind of breakthrough.
