Friday the 13th Fun Stuff!
It's friday the 13th! Yay! So of course this requires a fun stuff post! :)

First, some guy adopted a three-legged cat. And decided to make little paper hats for him. If you're looking for some kind of chain of logic there good luck, but the cute justifies the means. Also, a lot of the hats are rather geeky, so that's like a triple win.

Speaking of cute things, this is a cute and sweet and slightly sad video about geek girls, which i originally meant to post when it first started making the rounds.

Here's a cool map showing every country in the world, with the names in the language of that country.

And since we 're on the subject of maps, here are some maps of various past empires:

And finally, since we're on the subject of civilizations and empire...

This is old. Very old. But apparently some people still haven't seen "Civilization WITH LYRICS", so here you go!

Though as a bonus, if you've already seen the original then you can check out... "Civilization WITH PONIES" :)

The DoubleClicks (second link) are awesome! The came and played our local brewpub, because the owner of the brewery is also a big nerd. CHeck out more of their songs if you haven't already; good geeky fun.

Cool! One of the people in that video is a friend of mine, lady_indigo founded her High School's Star Trek club (according to the video, I didn't know her then.) Her wedding was the most awesome wedding I've ever been to, barring my own of course. She had chemistry flasks holding the flowers and a Super Mario Brothers cake. There was this awesome gaming scavenger hunt thing that we didn't finish solving before it was time to go home. jon_leonard and I learned how to do some advanced statistics from elissali during the reception on a napkin.

thanks!
That's high praise beth_leonard! Thanks! And yes, I was in fact the founder and president of my high school Star Trek fan club named Future Imperfect. I swooned weekly over Data - who did you swoon over?

Re: thanks!
Well i'm clearly not as much of a Star Trek geek as you :) I definitely didn't watch the show in a dedicated manner, but i guess i kind of had a crush on Tasha Yar for awhile, but obviously that didn't last long =P

But i think at that point i was mostly crushing on literary characters. I saved most of my TV crushes for a later. (Tifa (okay, not exactly TV), Ivonova, and Ukyo, then later of course Sam Carter, Kaylee, Starbuck and Boomer. Among others.)
