Scheduling stuff
Argh!!! Kilt Blowing is both friday night and saturday night at 1 am. Which means i get to choose on whether i risk missing Voltaire or Freezepop =P I wonder if there's likely to be a better crowd friday night or saturday night?

Not that that's really a choice, the last two times i went to DragonCon my only regret was that i was missing all the cool musical artists at PAX. When i went to PAX last year i got to see pretty much all the artists that i'd missed in earlier years... except Freezepop who decided to take that year off =P

I didn't even realize that Freezepop was going to be at DragonCon this year until well after signing up, so yay! Plus they've also got Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm and Wil Wheaton, it's like a w00tstock wrapped in a DragonCon inside an enigma... or something like that :)

That's not the only conflict of course. On sunday at 7 pm i kind of want to go to "The Gather Square" in the Hyatt which is some kind of Anne McCaffrey event, not particularly because of the the Anne McCaffrey part but because Emerald Rose is going to be playing there. But also at 7 pm is "World Record Attempt - Steampunk," which i guess is one of those "compete for the most niche Guinness record possible" events involving getting a lot of steampunk cosplayers together. But whatever, it's steampunk, and as a bonus, Emerald Rose is supposed to be playing there!

...okay, so either there's something wrong with the schedule (at least as presented by the Android app) or i'm not the only one who's overbooked :)

So besides Voltaire, Freezepop, Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm and Emerald Rose, also scheduled for this year are Tom Smith, Abney Park, Marc Gunn, plus a couple bands that i'm vaguely curious about but don't know if they're actually good or not (Ayria, Bella Morte, Cruxshadows, Pandora Celtica, Hellbinki Sextet, The Last Dance, Mad Tea Party.)

I haven't finished doing a calender yet, or even finished fully looking through the schedule, but here's what my proto-plans look like so far, if anyone actually cares :)

Okay, at this point it's not so much "plans" as "stuff that sounds interesting." Clearly i need to work more at resolving conflicts than on finding stuff i missed in the first pass :)

Hey akiko and kirinn, were you planning on going to one of the Tom Smith performances again this year? If so, which one were you thinking of?

I want to set the Cruxshadows and their fans on fire. They're pretentious, and they don't know how to share space with others: they blast their concert speakers in the lobby area where the bands are set up to sell shit.

It looks like Friday is the best bet for Tom Smith, because there are 2 other panels I'm interested in co-booked Saturday, and Sunday overlaps the Masquerade.

Re Masquerade: a couple of Ben's forum people want to watch it on room TV, too, and Don does. Don't know about Dana's plans. Not sure which room we'll be watching in, either.
Kirinkirinn on August 30th, 2011 07:33 pm (UTC)
Crap, I just noticed the Masquerade is the same time as the Pirate and Time Travelers' Ball. That sucks.

(As you can probably tell, I haven't even finished my first pass through scheduling yet, though I concur that the Friday evening Tom Smith is most likely. Though I see there's also a short hallway concert Sunday morning I might make it to...)
DonAithnendonaithnen on August 30th, 2011 08:02 pm (UTC)
Yeah, i was noticing that too. How long does the Masquerade usually run?
DonAithnendonaithnen on August 30th, 2011 08:02 pm (UTC)
Well if you guys decide you have room for n+1 for the Masquerade watching i'd be happy to join you :)

Friday was actually my first choice for Tom Smith too, except i'm gonna be there early from 7-8 to catch Marc Gunn, so unless you're interested in him too and want to meet up early i'll presumably see you guys there for Tom Smith :)

And that sounds like a good reason to avoid the Cruxshadows just on theory. It's not like i don't have other things competing for the same time slots =P

You can look up Cruxshadows on youtube if you want to know what they sound like. Generic synthpop, IMO. (They don't even get to "electronica" in my book.)
